I lived in Cobden for 18 years and fished this lake often. It has very little boat traffic due to the 10 hp motor limit. The back end through the narrows is loaded with lily pads and holds a lot of bass, but navigating the stumps can be tricky. When the water level gets low, a canoe or kayak can be launched from Giant City Campground road and used to find the open water in the pads. Floating weedless frogs and braided line work well. Otherwise, almost every shoreline has water willow, and a purple culprit worm worked outside the edges produced well for me.

Nice lake with good fishing. Not quite as good as Crab Orchard and Devil's Kitchen, but pretty good in its own right.

I am surprised there are not some reports on this beautiful old lake in the hill country of Southern Ill. I lived in Central Illinois in the 40s to the 60's and my dad and I used to try to make the nearly 200 mile trip several times a year to fish this lake and its newer neighbor Devils Kitchen. Little Grassy is a green lake with much standing timber (probably all broken off at water level by now. It isn't an easy lake to fish but has some very nice bass and from others I hear nice catfish. When one sees this lake for the first time his thoughts probably go something like mine did. Wow! there must be a big ol' bucketmouth behind every one of those stumps. There isn't, of course, but there should be. I loved fishing this lake whether we caught fish or not because of its beauty. I would like to return sometime.
