History & Status of the Fishery
McCullom Lake is stocked with largemouth bass and channel catfish. The IDNR conducts northern pike stocking success surveys when conditions allow. Four trap-nets were fished for two nights in March of 2018. Also listed are results from the 2014 fall electrofishing survey.

Unfortunately this shallow lake is prone to fish kills and carp infestation.

We also noted hundreds small (young of year) yellow bass and yellow perch. Heavy aquatic vegetation in the summer/fall can make this lake difficult to fish.

July 29, 2018. The dog days of summer has hit the lake. Fished for bass and northern several times from a boat (June-July), but the bite was very slow. Bottom-fishing from shore has been quite enjoyable. Petersen Park has a nice shoreline and piers from which to fish. Several species of fish can be caught from shore; to include bluegill, crappie, bass, northern, catfish and carp. West Shore Beach is maintained well and easy to fish from shore. Looking forward to the autumn bite.

May 2018: I've fished McCullom about four times this year (April-May) from a boat. It has been an excellent spring fishery. Very nice, healthy bass and pike. I noticed bluegills and crappies "popping" just about everywhere in the lake; schools of big-shouldered carp cruising around, too. Vegetation is starting to turn green, Petersen Park put in fishing piers, and looks like the lake is waking up from its winter slumber.
