Defiance Lake is stocked annually with largemouth bass and channel catfish. The lake is surveyed by IDNR every two years and supplemental sampling for northern pike occurs when conditions allow. Defiance Lake is difficult to sample effectively with electrofishing gear as the vegetation becomes very thick early in the year. Due to this reason, catch rates for most species are low. While abundance may be underestimated, species richness seems to be pretty consistent throughout the years. Defiance Lake should provide something for the angler who wants to catch something other than bass and bluegill as overall, it is a year-round productive and diverse lake that offers a chance to see some uncommon fish species: captured in 2018 were brown bullhead, bowfin, yellow perch, grass pickerel, common carp and pumpkinseed. Previous surveys have shown black crappie, black bullhead, brook silverside, central mudminnow, golden shiner, green sunfish, lake chubsucker, longnose gar, warmouth and yellow bullhead to be present in Defiance Lake.

Lots of small panfish at the fishing piers. Use weedless topwater lures when the lilies are thick. Bring a kayak or rent a boat to fish away from the piers. Caught some decent LM and a nice northern (34"). Water is stained but still clear to about 5 feet. Never crowded except at the piers. Bank fishing is not allowed.

Not that bad of a lake catch I northern on top water spooks kills em every time off the weed beds give it a shot. Nothing to big in there that ive seen

i came once on this lake and i caught 2 bass 1 was 1.3 pounds and the other wasnt even a pound. There is a lot of bass in here but they dont like to bite. Use a plastic worm just above the weeds and ull get a hit

I came here on a windswept day with one of the rented rowboats. The water was clear and the lake had a healthy weed growth. I saw few large bass and brought in two Lms around 20' long with a crankbait off of the weeds. I will return here on a calmer day.

went there a few weeks ago and it didnt seem like any body was catching anything. it seems like an overfished lake but i could be wrong. alot of bluegills
