History & Status of the Fishery
Red Hills Lake was drained in October of 2008 to facilitate repairs to the dam and drain structure. The small amount of water remaining was rotenoned in December 2008 to eradicate all remaining fish. The lake was then restocked in April 2009 with small bluegill and redear (avg. length 1"), with largemouth bass in June 2009 (avg. length 1"), and in July 2009 with channel catfish (avg. length 8"). An unknown number of adult black crappie were stocked illegally in 2009, and these fish have already spawned successfully. The lake also contains warmouth sunfish and golden shiners. The source of the warmouth is unknown, but the golden shiners most likely were leftover baitfish illegally dumped into the lake by anglers.

For a disabled man such as myself. The fishing was easy access. We caught 35 Black crappie this evening using spoon billed crank baits.
