History & Status of the Fishery
Periodic fish surveys are undertaken to track the fishery relative to "catch-and-release" recreational fishing. Very little aquatic plant management takes place in the lake, but shoreline work does occur to improve cosmetics and control wind drive, bank, erosion. Independence Grove has received a couple of northern pike stockings since 2000, but little else. The lake is managed as a no harvest "natural" system. 11 species of fish have been collected in this lake.

My boyfriend and I have fished on Independence Grove from a rented boat and from shore several times in many areas. We have only caught bluegill. I have seen decent sized carp jump out of the water. My guy insists he had a big largemouth hooked but it spat out his treble. This water can be very frustrating and packed with boaters, kayaks, etc. The fish are easily spooked and it's, in general, very difficult to fish from shore. We've never had success. Ala, we will be trying again tomorrow!

Its a good lake to take someone who has never fished before... lots of small gills and crappies but it is all catch and release. found one good pocket of crappies one day 15 to 20 all 10 to 12. other than that nothing really good. bring the kids and dont expect to bring home supper
