Caught some Smallmouth bass over the years nothing of size. Yesterday i tried an area someone tipped me off to and locked up with a 33 inch Northern Pike. Lost it but I now know there is some big fish in here, Going to start working the river a lot more.

Excellent nearly untouched river! I've caught a 3 lb+ channel catfish, numerous buffalo or carp, lots of fat bullheads, rock bass, and the occasional monster smallmouth. Shhh, don't tell anyone, it's a secret! I'm a student at NIU, so I've fished the river there often, and you can't beat it!

Depending on when and where you are fishing, the river can give you a good time fishing. Some hot spots include: Just north of Gurler Road near the beaver dam, just south of I-88 where a small stream flows into the river, at the College St. bridge where the NIU East Lagoon empties into the river, and numerous locations where there are bridges over the river north of Dekalb.
