Was out here with a spud bar.  Went out a good 50 yards from the boat launch.  5-6 inches of ice all the way out.  Finally a good weekend to ice fish.

Didn’t fish but drilled a hole to measure the ice on the main pool near the docks at 6 inches.  Measured it with hand and measuring tape.  I was only 30 feet off shore.  Ice was opaque, didn’t freeze clear.  Tread carefully, I would still give it another day to before venturing too far out.

Lol, Paul Orndorff (Mr.Wonderful) died a few years ago. I loved WWF back then. Good memories watching with the old man.

I used to fish this reservoir back in my youth.
We had a field trip to the forest preserve/reservoir when it was under construction back in the 70s From Saint Zachery  school/ church  in Des Plaines Illinois. alot of farmland in that area back then. There used to be a trailer  park where the salt creek intersects Higgins road on the southwest side.
My Grandma used to own a green house on Higgins about a mile west of Arlington Heights Rd. It's the first sparsely vegetated area on the north side. ( Been 40 years and still is not forested?) this was when Higgins was 2 lanes , one going west one going east.
Memories.......

Partly Sunny
River Channel
Had to harvest this 24” snake last week; swallowed my rig off bottom at 7:30 pm.  Also caught a nice channel cat in same spot:  try the south end of the area below the dam.  Tight lines always & best of luck out there.

Shy bites off bottom below main dam; caught 3 eyes today so far; biggest 16”.  I agree: get off the couch and fish!  Tight lines and peace to all.

ps: pike hunt, I’ve caught pike at Busse when I’m not targeting them.  Below dam under bobber with minnow.  Be patient.  Try ice fishing w tip ups too.  Best of luck.
