Is ice fishing allowed here? I know they are pretty strict. At least they were at one time.

Well I went back yesterday afternoon. I did read no minnows on the sign. So I scrapped the tip ups idea. I took my son and his friend for the first time this year. We were in the north west area in 15 FOW. We dropped the camera and seen hundreds of bluegills just under the ice all pointed in the same direction. Also a monster bass swam right under the holes and they seen it through the hole. They though that was awesome. We just got set up and started to fish, but before we caught anything a guy walked out and said it was private property. He said the public can only shore fish from the marked areas on the sign and fish from kayak in the summer. He said his Grandpa owned it. I was under the impression that the Rockford PD bought it but he said they just have a partnership for summer fishing. So I guess no ice fishing there. Ill post a picture of the sign. It says nothing one way or the other about ice fishing. Bauman and Victoria all say No Ice Fishing on the signs so I assumed this place you could. I thought I found a good ice fishing hole near home. Guess not. Ill just keep taking all my money and fishing in Wisconsin like I have been all winter. The fact that Rock Cut opens at 8AM and closes at 5PM is absolutely ridiculous so I don't even go there. Well enough complaining. Good luck fishing everyone.

According to the Rockford Park District's website, it's catch and release for everything but panfish. The site doesn't mention anything about ice fishing, though. It does mention that minnows are not allowed, so you may want to rethink the tip ups.

So they are allowing ice fishing? All summer they were telling me no, no and no every month I asked about if they changed their mind on ice fishing. I was disappointed at that response everytime as I pulled over 100 bass easily out while i was on the kayaks they offer using a sinko worm. My biggest was 24 inches but avg 16-18 all day. Big girls in that lake. Also the musky that were in the shallows are enormous. I saw at least 3 or 4 that I can remember well over the 40 inch mark. I am shocked you only found depths of 15 feet max. I hit a hole in the middle well near double that last fall. And bluegills were always slabs. Again shocked you saw small ones only. The small reservoir on the other side of windsor rd was loaded with the small 3 inch gills though. anyways enough of me rambling, my question is did you have to pay a day rate or what are they offering at the outfitting store? also a strictly catch and release pond the last I knew.

anyways in the summer shore fishing sucks as the access is limited, a kayak allows so much more opportunity and better fish. Especially on the north east side casting on the bank from a kayak and pulling topwater mice or frogs through the weeds I only mention that because I just read the previous posts for the last year.

CONDITIONS
Snowing

ICE DEPTH
11 inches

AIR TEMP
11° - 15° F
Fished Windsor with a friend for a few hours this morning. Never been here before so we scouted for depths with vexilar. Found 5 feet, 10, and 15 feet depths. Deeper water north west corner. Seen several small gills on the camera and vexilar. When in 15 ft of water the school of small gills were only 2-3 feet below the ice. Seemed to be biting decent compared to the way its been. May go back later with some tip ups for bass.

I was also wondering if this is public use for ice fishing. A friend has heard of people ice fishing it but we are not sure. If it is, we were going to try tomorrow afternoon. Any info would be great.

Does anyone know if this lake is open to ice fishing this year? I thought that Paddle & Trail were going to allow ice fishing and have all sorts of winter activities on the lake, but have heard nothing. If there is ice fishing allowed , is it the same as summer fishing with a fee?

Just curious CheapTrix
