Thanks for the report! I'm fixing on returning to the area next year. Whereabouts on the river were you fishing? A general location will suffice. Keep posting! We need more info on this river.

I fished the Sangamon River for the first time Saturday; what a little gem. I didn't catch many big fish but I caught a lot. The white bass were 10" to 14", crappies 9"to 11", Flat head and channel cats 14" to 18", blue gills 5" to 8", rock bass 7"to 9" and smallmouth 10" to 13". I was floating small fat heads set at 2'. I will definitely go back there. Go whack a few!

Went out again today, this time armed with minnows and crawdads. Caught 5 fish in all. 2 nice channels, one 6 pounder and one 3 pounder. 2 other channels about 1 pound each. One monster drum about 15 pounds and fat with eggs. Mouth was about 3 inches in diameter. Difficult to land, almost lost at the boat. We need rain though; the river is REALLY low, and near impossible to navigate. Motor was hitting logs frequently and bumping bottom on occasion. Use extreme care if you decide to use a boat.

Just moved down to the Decatur area. Have been out a few times on the Sangamon River. Nice river for multiple species. Navigation is tough with all the bars and riffles. Have caught fish each time out. Is anyone else having any luck on the Sangamon. Also, does anyone know where you can put a boat in on it in Macon county?
