I just wanted to give props to Nick Shafer. I hired him for two days to take me, my Dad, and my 10 year old son out crappie fishing in the spring a couple of years ago. Awesome fishing at Rend Lake. It was my first time fishing this lake. We caught hundreds of crappies, and they were thick. I'm talking wide backs. Even the 10 inch crappie had more meat on them then 15 inch crappie I catch in northern Illinois and Wisconsin. He was a great guide, funny, nice guy, and extremely helpful.

Since fishing with Nick, I have changed my whole approach to crappie fishing.

And for what it's worth, I am not a friend, relative, or paid spokesperson for his guide service. I just wanted to share my opinion of him with anyone who is looking to fish Rend.

There are good bass in Rend. Average tourny is won with a five fish limit weighing 15-18lbs and big fish is usually over 5lbs.

Raining
Crappie are slow because of all the rain we are getting but you can catch a nice mess fishing deep brush in 10'-14' for.

Catfish are on fire with all the rain just find flowing water and you found the cats. We have been using Sunny's bet anything stinky works well!
