With the high water is it worth trying to panfish the backwaters off spring lake/big slough this weekend or is it too high and muddy?
Thanks in advance
Started fishing at 6 a.m. . Off the water at 4 p.m. . Got my limit of walleye and sauger. Largest one was 19 and 3/4 smallest one was 17 in. The bite was tough. Nice day for fishing though.. Tight lines to all.
Fished Sunday 730 until noon water was 40 deg a lot of boats out, caught 5 sauger and 1 walleye. Fished straight jig and minnow ( black tail chub) using 1/2oz they liked it slow not a lot of jigging. Also caught them using debuque rig. Found a small perch floating in live well...
i caught a humpback sauger you hear about them catching these on Winnebago first for me on Mississippi anyway took her out of the reproductive cycle a little small, but thought it was the right thing to do.... lol
if anyone is coming from IL FYI savanna bridge is closed needed to drive to Fulton to cross added 30 minutes to drive
Late report from Saturday. I tried off mickelsons, headed north, 8-noon. Drilled about 30 holes, only thing I caught was large bait (shiners)! Talked to a few other guys, only one guy caught something...a bullhead. Everyone seemed to be moving around a lot, no one seemed to stay more than two hours. Nothing on vex or camera, deep areas only 3'-5', tried minnows, waxies, and spikes. Packed up and headed to Carlton, had some luck there (will post my report there). Good luck and tight lines!
Beavers gas station in Savanna has live bait minnows and waxies they are located in the downtown area on the north end. I can't help you much as far as hot spots. I do see a few cars out at millers but not many. I would ask at Beavers they may be able to help you . Good luck
Not a report, yet. Planning to make the 3 hour drive for my first trip to savanna. Planning to start around Millers, then give spring lake a try. Is one better than the other this time of year? Also, any bait shop around Miller's? Any advice greatly appreciated, pm is on if preferred. I'm not asking for honey holes, I can search, just looking for a good starting point. Being on the ice is my stress relief, but cleaning fish is too much work!! Thanks in advance and will post my findings! -rhino
