MOON PHASE (12%)
Waxing Crescent
A lot of people fish this water for the pike and bass but the real action here is in the carp. I fish off the dock with three rods, 10 pound test, egg sinker and 0/3 hook and land several carp a day while I watch other anglers walk the entire shoreline without a single fish. Simply chum a can of corn right off the dock as far as you can, load your hook with corn and cast straight out to the weed line. Chum the water with another handful of corn every 20 minutes or after you land a fish. The fish in here are big and really healthy too. Fully scaled fish, the biggest Ive landed was 15lbs.

4-730pm. Partly cloudy, mild breeze.

See my post below from a year ago. Pretty much the same deal today.

Also caught a couple on frogs in the weeds by the rocks. Weeds are pretty on that end, and I really had to horse them out and skim 'em over the top. Most productive spots for me was the southeast corner (spinnerbaits), and the northeast corner from the rocks (frogs - too many weeds for much of anything else). 9 Bass total today, most about the size in the pic.

Word of warning: the Euclid entrance is shut down, enter at Algonquin Rd. Went yesterday from 10:30 to 2:30, pretty slow day. Two bass in the 7-10" range, one on a crawler other on a popper, a handful of gills and an ugly bullhead on crawlers. Thought the overcast would have helped.

From today, 6/23, 7-9pm.

Leave the cranks and jerkbaits at home - wayyy too many weeds. Parking lot side was completely dead for me. Walked to the opposite side and worked from the tall grass to the rocks. 7 or 8 real good strikes on a spinner-bait, only two landed. Others were either lost in the weeds or managed to throw it out.. Also had one huge bass on a top-water frog right after sunset - biggest I've seen there in a while, 5-6lbs easily. She also managed to throw the hook out, which I was really pissed about.

Most action was on spinner-baits casting as close to parallel to the shore as possible, and run only 6" or so under the surface. Plastics, rigged weedless, also have been working well on other days.

3 largemouths today; one on a popper two on wacky worms. Cloud cover was a nice change of pace. Word of advice; thunderstorm came in and their new lightning detector siren went off, never heard one like that, it sounds like a police car with a siren whoop then like a police horn "buzz" so at first I thought there was a cop but then realized it's their detector. Kind of a cool addition, I know they got them in Hoffman Estates, but they sound more like sirens than the one by Harper. Nice to have that warning when I'm holding a 7' graphite rod!

Not a bad day at PGR/Harper. Five bass in total, three on poppers, one on a spinner, and this one on a drop shot set up. Some chunky gills, seeds, and green sunfish in the mix too.

Yeah I call it Harper Lake/Reservoir as well, but was just going with the official name to avoid multiple threads for one lake. It's pretty decent, the pike can get nice there. I even got a smallie there back in March.

Catfisherpaul,

Thanks, I have fished that Reservoir many times. But we just call it Harper Pond. Have caught some nice Bass from there and some Pike. Thanks for the help.

Bustacap, it's right against Harper Community College. Enter at Algonquin road and hang a right, you'll see the large lake almost immediately. You can park for free in the student parking lot. It's catch and release for gamefish like large and smallmouth bass, pike, it also has perch, catfish, bullhead, panfish, etc. Nicely balanced lake. FYI there are two small ponds on Harper's property, those are no-fishing allowed. Stay clear from those, and just fish the big one.
