Crappie are definitely in there. Brother caught a 15 “ crappie 4 years ago. Always pull some out every year.
26° - 30° F
Ice was decent. I measured 4” all along the southwest side. Caught about a dozen small sunnies and one crappie; but no keepers. Didn’t know there were crappie in Olson. Nice to meet ya this morning Jeremy.
I would be skeptical if it gets to 40 and rains. I was there Sunday and there was 3-3.5" I sat in my Frabil pop up for maybe an hour after the wind picked up a bit. It is black and I could feel the warmth of the sun. I noticed a lot of water on the ice, melting from the heat of my shelter. It has not been that cold and I doubt it has surpassed 4" yet. As you said, take your spud bar and use caution.
MOON PHASE (34%)
So what's the concensus on ice thickness for this weekend given we've had 1/2 days below freezing and roughly 1/2 days above freezing? Anyone planning to venture out? I may try Saturday with spud bar in hand; but have to see how warm today and tomorrow get. Wish there was easy access from the north side where it's a bit shallower.
