Finally got out. Soaking some very healthy suckers(14") and nada. Fished for only 3 hours or so. Saw 2 other guys chunking some heavy stuff and dragging softball size bobbers. Maybe they have better news. Weed line was a major issue. Havent been on the lake since June, and I saw weeds that never existed before. That was the main issue. Kinda annoying trying to keep the live bait clear and for the first hour every snag pumping you up with the hopes of a fish. Well I guess just one of those days.

Never understood point of trolling. Whether online or on water, kinda always seemed boring and pointless. Mallard yeah, has its up and downs. More on a boring side if u ask. But on the up side it can be rewarding for the lack of better words. Few pics from last fall and winter, actually January. Pics of 3 from 5 caught in 4 outings. Sorry for red letters in background, crappy editing, 3rd party software from Gopro. Getting old and free software isnt as easy to come by as it used to be. Young guys or galls, have at it, plenty of fish in the sea...

I bought a boat specifically to fish Mallard. About 10 years ago I always had fun catching bass and northern. 5 LB bass and 33 inch northern are my records for this lake. About 5 or 6 years ago, I used up 3 dozen minnows catching 14 inch walleyes, on 3 separate occasions. About 3 years ago my fishing success at Mallard went downhill. My buddies have caught a few musky in the past 3 years though. 50+ inches. I have only personally seen two muskies while fishing here, but they have sent me their photos.
That being said, I used to fish it almost every weekend, sometimes Saturday and Sunday. But over the last three years or so, fishing has been hit or miss. I fished it twice last year, and have not even fished it this year because of how bad it had been before.
Usually at this time of year, the lake is covered with weeds, but there is still a lot of open water to fish. If you go, I used to have success from the time it opens until about 10:30 a.m. My experience is that the fish just shut down at that time. My buddies that have caught the muskies have always gone out around 5pm to close.
Hope this is useful to you.
Nope they are defiently not in there anywhere!! I would.stick with harrier or deep quary. I GUARANTEE you will catch bigger fish at either one. for deep quary fish the east side bout middle of the lake maby 50-60 ft from shore. there is a nice drop off with trees in the deeper part.
