Those days of great fishing on Mallard are gone.  Too many poaching which I witness.  After that never fished the lake again and that was about 8 years ago.  Same thing with Deep Quarry.  Bass Lake still holds its name.

RedX, this lake used to be terrific.   Back at the turn of the turn of the century, ice fishing was really good for both northern and crappie.   Topwater fishing east of the north pier used to be excellent in the evening for both northern and bass.  Lake has produced absolute squat for about 10 years now.   Poaching, lack of enforcement, and muskies have really hurt this fishery.   I have been there 5-6 times in the past few years walking the shore  and have only caught a 15 inch bass and a 32 inch musky caught on a finesse worm by complete accident.    A real shame what has happened here.

I bought a boat specifically to fish Mallard.  About 10 years ago I  always had fun catching bass and northern.  5 LB bass and 33 inch northern are my records for this lake.  About 5 or 6 years ago, I used up 3 dozen minnows catching 14 inch walleyes, on 3 separate occasions.  About 3 years ago my fishing success at Mallard went downhill.  My buddies have caught a few musky in the past 3 years though. 50+ inches.  I have only personally seen two muskies while fishing here, but they have sent me their photos.

That being said, I used to fish it almost every weekend, sometimes Saturday and Sunday.  But over the last three years or so, fishing has been hit or miss.  I fished it twice last year, and have not even fished it this year because of how bad it had been before.

Usually at this time of year, the lake is covered with weeds, but there is still a lot of open water to fish.  If you go, I used to have success from the time it opens until about 10:30 a.m.  My experience is that the fish just shut down at that time.  My buddies that have caught the muskies have always gone out around 5pm to close.

Hope this is useful to you.

Never been out to Mallard....I have a fishing kayak and small 9 foot pond boat.

Is it worth the trip?  Thinking musky, walleye and bass.

Anyone knows the water temp for the lake? Would love to get some fishing done if the water temp is low enough. Thx

Nope they are defiently not in there anywhere!! I would.stick with harrier or deep quary. I GUARANTEE you will catch bigger fish at either one. for deep quary fish the east side bout middle of the lake maby 50-60 ft from shore. there is a nice drop off with trees in the deeper part.

I agree.   This lake used to be real good 10-15 years ago.   It has declined severely.   I won't even ice fish this anymore.   The muskies have definitely played a factor but the lack of policing and poaching that has gone on here has hurt this lake big time.
