This stinks. I think the Crappie population was just coming back. Did you find out anything about why they are dying?

I received an e-mail from my sister stating the lake smells really bad so I took a quick trip up and found dead fish(mostly crappies) everywhere.

I'll have to see what I can find out.

Low oxygen levels combined with all the farm chemical run off from this past spring.

MOON PHASE (72%)

Tried trolling for walleye/sauger and didn't catch one. My son did hook catch a 35" Muskie trolling a Wally Stinger and a 7.8 lbs. Catfish casting a Mepps spinner. What a beautiful day for our 2018 maiden voyage. Got a little sun burned.

Only place around that has safe ice. I didn't catch many but did manage 6. 2 crappie,  2 bluegill and 2 perch. Ice was thick and clear. Fishing was slow. Caught most on a chartreuse CJ&S Ja-Je jig.

Fished from 11 to 5 and only managed to catch a few bluegill and a couple small crappie. Ice was better than I expected after the few warmer days we had this week. We walked from the boat ramp to the dam and then from there we worked our way to the old road bed. That's where we caught the bluegill. Only bit for about 20 minutes and then they shut off.

Late report from Saturday. Fished 2-6 p.m., absolutely beautiful day to be out! First time out here, started along west end of south shore, looking for the 20'-25' hole/ flooded timber. Drilled over 45 holes, working east. Finally found some decent gill acton in one, then drilled 9 more in a 10' radius. ALL fish came from the one hole, well over 100 gills in less than 2 hours. Most 6 1/2 - 7 1/2, about a dozen 7 1/2 - 8, so nothing huge, but fun action. No crappies, but I think one of the groups at the shallow west end was finding some perch. Waxies and small jig worked best for me, no luck on minnows.  Good luck and tight lines!

Didn't have much luck yesterday. Moved a few times and marked some fish. My son caught about 3 bluegills. Nothing to keep. I've was a fire 9 inches thick and clear. I guess all the warm weather we had last week helped make better ice. Got tired of setting up the hub and setting anchors down. Setting up the hub isn't bad. Just getting the anchors in wore me out. And they are the Eskimo anchors.  I'm looking for a 2 man flip over.

Spent a few hours out in the cold with my boy. The ice was 6" everywhere we drilled. Had some snow on top. We didn't have much luck except for one 12 1/4 inch crappie. The wind was blowing pretty good at times.
