What's the lake fish limits out there. And are there any other good spots around or just in general anyone can recommend for some good gills and crappies?

As far as I'm concerned, it was a perfect storm of smaller variables that caused it.

Lots of small gills but 9 and 10 inchers are available.

I'm looking forward to this season since fishing pressure has been non-existent since early August with the rebuilding of the boat ramp.

Yes. In a normal winter, there is plenty of ice. Lots of gills. I'm not sure how the crappies will be this winter since there was a fish kill on them this summer.

Has there been safe ice at Lake Carlton in the past couple years. And is it fishable during the ice season? Has anyone ice fished it and done any good with the crappies and gills? Looking for some new spots to try out this year.

This stinks. I think the Crappie population was just coming back. Did you find out anything about why they are dying?

I received an e-mail from my sister stating the lake smells really bad so I took a quick trip up and found dead fish(mostly crappies) everywhere.

I'll have to see what I can find out.

Low oxygen levels combined with all the farm chemical run off from this past spring.
