Went fishin' on tuesday at Homer. Catfish are bitin' a little. Kind of embarrassed though, my wife outfished me. They're bitin' on Sonny's dip bait. Not very big though, 'bout a pound or so. Good pan fryers. I was catchin' them by the damn in case any of you are interested. Catch lots of fish!

Fished today 3:30-8:30. Was very slow until 7:30, then the crappie turned on. Caught a whole bunch, but none with any size to them. Let them all go, but wish the guy next to me would have... But hey, nothing says "amazing fisherman" like keeping a bucketfull of 5 inch crappie. I want to be the first to say "way to go!!". (In case the gentleman I'm talking about can't tell, the previous statement was dripping in sarcasm).

hey guys! if you want some really good bluegill and bass fishin', try going to Collin's Pond. It's part of Homer lake. it's on the backside of the park. just take a right before you get to the brigde on your way to the park and the road will wind around the park until you see a sign for the pond. theie are some monster cats too. hopw you find and enjoy! the bass there love purple Culprit plastic worms. there spawning right now, so they are kinda tricky. But you gotta chance at a 4-6 pounder at any time. oh, and you gotta walk to the pond, but its not far. 'bout a hundred yards or so down the trail.

Hey all! Crappie bitin' great at Homer. Just go around the damn onto the west side and fish by the sank log over there. I caught sixty four the other day in that spot. I was only there a couple of hours. Caught a couple of cats there too. Look out for the snags though. I used red and white skirttail jigs and topped them off with yellow powerbait.

Will probably head out sometime this week. I'm looking for some nice crappie and bluegill. If anybody can tell me where they might be, that would be great. Also, if anybody has caught any crappie near the dam or spillway, where were they caught.

Thanks for the help. I'll report after I get back.

Eric

Sterling, I did catch some nice crappie there. I think that I turned in the the first area b4 the dam. I had good luck right around this time of year. Never kept anything though because I didn't want to clean them in my apartment. Again, I just used jigs and twister tails and maybe on of those beetle spin spinners. Go U of I!!! Funko

Thanks for the help. I can see all of us fisherman at the U of I think alike. Were there any size to the crappie you caught, or any particular spots that seemed to be any better? I'm going out again tomorrow afternoon, so any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Eric

Hey Sterling, I used to fish Homer Lake while going to U of I. Tried catfishing a few times without any luck. I had most luck using a jig and twister tail and catching crappie and small bass. Hope this helps a little. Funko

I'm going to be out again on Saturday if the weather is nice enough. Would really like to catch some catfish if they're biting. If anybody has any suggestions for good spots, presentation, whatever, let me know.

Thanks a lot, Eric
