Well it is always wise to be cautious but south end should be plenty ice fishable by Friday
I typically fish Montrose harbor and it's 6-7 inches.
The people that fell in channel lake 8 days ago were stupid. 7 fifty degree days and rain... It was dumb. Follow this chart. It has always foretasted my ice perfectly
have taken my own advise and stayed off the ice had more open water than ice for a day or two,ice is coming back fast water is going down about 9 inches and another 18 or so to go to get back to normal winter levels, am not ready to get out here again and well be walking with that darn heavy spud bar when I do in a day or two hope it will be alot of sweat for nothing , mean time will fish a lake or two not part of chain that I know that held ice threw that warm spell........
I might add for those who might think they well risk ice fishing this weekend ,thier has been half dozen or more deaths across the ice belt in the last week ,and most where experienced ice fisherman that should have known better , if you know somplace you can stand on a dock and drill a hole thats where I would go.........
The lakes are up as much as 2 feet many truck size holes skimmed over last night and have a dusting of snow on them, where there was to much open water to cap last night is easy to see but you can't see those big holes it is all dark ice right now ,because of the rising water I would wright off the chain for now , This is sucide ice on the chain at least where I have checked ,did find what looks like safe ice but I ain't going out for now maybe in a week or two with cold weather........and no snow blankets on the ice.

One of the two guys that went through the ice last week is a guide, not sure of the name yet, and not 100% certain whether the 2nd guy was a client or what. I know the guide was able to get out using safety spikes. The Thursday before they went through, a child went through the ice over by the Turtle. I'm done with the chain until we get a deep freeze, if it comes again this year. Too many variables to make me comfortable enough to go out on ice I know has current under it.
I'll second the walleyes on marie sentiment, but I definitely wouldn't be venturing out on that lake any time soon.
Be safe, no fish or memory is worth losing your life, or the emergency room/ ambulance bill.
