Bass have been very good for quite a few weeks on slugos. The red shad color has been the best. Fish have been very close to the bank in the weeds. The slugos should be cast unweighted and worked slowly over the weeds. Slugos are very hard to find and fluke will probably work.

Anyone know if the crappie or bluegill are biting? Had some luck last week at lake Murphysboro, also caught a couple bass and a catfish. Crappie seem to be moving more and more shallow by the day with water temperatures around 45 degrees. Bluegill and crappie are holding very tight to structure thus far so bring extra bobbers!

Hey, Grunwald---you should try fishing the SIU campus lake, if you get a chance. I used to go to school there at SIU and there are really good-sized bass in the lake there. There is a lot of bank space to fish in the Thompson woods there.

Good luck.

July 6, 2006 I only caught one small largemouth. But today I caught 5 small bluegills from shore.
