Was out Saturday 4-22-17 the shallow weeds not holding any largemouth or at least none that would chase down a moving bait. Seven hours of fishing made a couple of key adjustments and found fish in 7 to 10 fow most tight to cover. Some did hit on the drop but most wanted it moving slowly, or just crawling along. Had 14 total fish with the 5 best a 21 incher, 17", 16" and 2 slightly over 15" I will try to post a pic of the big one. Not full of eggs as you would imagine for this time of year. Not near any cover at all. Can only assumed he or she was cruising a flat. First time out on apple canyon in the boat this year.

Went out on the ice at the marina last night to check thickness. Ice appears to be right around 5 inches in that bay. where do you park to get to hawthorne? Anybody ever ice fish the marina bay? where are the usual hotspots for bluegill? Just looking to catch panfish.

Thanks for the report Jig man. We are heading over Saturday, sounds like we shouldn't be limited to just the bays. Does anyone know where I can get a map marking the cribs. I will be glad to share any info I gather. Lake gets very little ice fishing pressure. I am sure the nice gills can be caught thriough the ice but I plan to start on some of the points we get nice gills during teh summer. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I was out 1-3-09. I fished the point at Hawthorne. Managed some bass and gills. Others were doing ok as well. The ice was a solid 9-10" thick. There were others out towards the main lake fishing. I would think most ice is ok. It is always a good idea to check as you go though.

The ice is safe in the bays as I did fish the weekend after Christmas. Caught one nice 18" bass but could not get on the main lake to the spots for Crappie and Bluegills.
If you are going to fish, try the Marina bay but make sure you check ice as you walk out by drilling holes.
