Ima college student whkse looking to try some new lakes in central and northern Wisconsin for pike. When looking at lakes what do you guys focus in and look for when searching for a good pike lake?
Thanks.
Spend time researching WDNR survey reports. Based on your username and location you have as good of access to this stuff as you’ll ever have.
Look through a list of lakes which show pike being present and then look at other species. Focus on lakes where there is an abundance of forage that have a high oil/fat content.
Pay close attention to the average size in population reports. Abundant numbers of pike won’t guarantee quality size. Line up ideal forage with a presence of them and be on your way.
You have some of the absolute best inland pike fishing opportunities available right there in central Wisconsin. Some incredible fisheries exist there that people overlook.
