The plan WAS to hunt Pool 7 this weekend, but looks as if the weather might keep me from it... as in I am thinking the shallow backwaters are going to freeze solid and I wont be able to get from Brice Prairie Landing to anywhere water IS open. What do ya'll think? Is there any hope of a successful hunt, or am I gonna be froze out?

Glad you were able to get a hunt in. I cannot go until a week from Saturday but I doubt any water will open back up.

Made the trip. Glad I did. Was able to get out at Brice Prairie/Fred Funk. There were maybe 10 trailers there. No problem getting through ice and to open water and was basically open all the way to the main channel. Lots of open water. LOTS of birds. Many mallards in particular. We did not get a whole lot of shooting. Could not get them into our sets, but being out there and seeing all those birds was a sight, and fun. Same story Sunday, except managed to scratch a couple more birds. Finished my season with a double on Mallards. Pretty good way to end the season.

I would think Nelson is frozen solid as a brick. That area is really shallow. A guy on another site claims he is shooting limits of Mallards on Pool 7.

Freezing as we speak, had to break over an inch this am and with the cold I am very concerned about this weekend. Can always get in from the mn side but it's a cold ride! Sad

You will be ok. I hunted brice off of z when it was colder than this. Just break ice. Or just change your plans and hunt the big open water. That will not freeze. I usually go out of wildcat in Brownville when it is really cold.
