Snowmobile trails are in good to very good condition and they are all being groomed on a regular basis now. Some Swamp areas have not been groomed; most are solid and rideable, however, they may be rough or icy. Forecasters are predicting perfect snowmobiling weather Thursday through Monday with partly sunny skies, highs in the mid-20s and lows in the teens. Logging: There are a couple logging operations going on in the Solberg Lake area: Trail 141 on East side of Solberg has logging for approximately 1/2 mile and Trail 102 from Hicks Landing Road north has logging for approximately 1/2 mile. Reroute: Trail 90 in the Lugerville area from Crane Chase Tavern to Trail 88 has been rerouted and there is very little riding on the road now. It will stay that way until the end of the season. Please stay on the trails and do not wander off on fields. Reroute: Trail 102 is detoured at Gates Lake Road, Fed Rd 136, to avoid an area of tree blowdown that has not been removed yet. The detour is marked as designated Snowmobile Route that runs east to an ATV trail that hooks up with 121 towards Pike Lake northeast and Wintergreen Lake northwest. This detour will be in effect the entire snowmobiling season. 1/13/15 – Driftsplitters (Catawba/Kennan area) – Just got done grooming; the trails are in good shape, no problem areas. 1/13/15 – Northwoods Hi-Riders (Solberg Lake area) – All trails are groomed and in great condition. 1/13/15 – Elk River Pioneers (Soo Lake area) - Trails are being groomed on regular basis in the Soo Lake area. Trails are in good to very good condition. There are some bumpy spots – more snow is needed in those areas. 1/13/15 – Lugerville Chasers (west central Price County) - The Lugerville Chaser trails are in good to very good condition. There is a small stretch of logging on the Doc Frye trail north of Lugerville, Trail 8/Corridor 21; also, west on Trail 80 west of Lugerville in the Kimberly Clark area to Price Lakes Road. 1/13/15 – Prentice Bushbenders (southeast Price County) - All trails in the Prentice, Ogema and Brantwood area are groomed and in great condition. 1/13/15 – Sno-Gypsies (west of Park Falls) - All of our trails have been groomed… including the swamps… and they are in very good sledding condition.

We have a small group with U.P. plans on the 28th or so. We'll be headquartered around L'Anse. The snow has been limited since the Nov storm, but it's falling right now. It should be workable at the current rate. The temps are going way down too. I'm trying to make it to Big Bay this trip. I need to get a little further than the Cozy Inn, or Sidnaw. I see the 'Lumberjack Tavern' in Big Bay has lots of history.

In Price County there is a foot of snow on the ground. Due to agreements with private landowners, who allow trails to cross their private land, the snowmobile trails will NOT open until December 11, 2014 following the muzzleloader deer hunting season. Please stay off of the trails until they are officially open. Unauthorized use may result in fines. If you contact us, we would be happy to send you a Price County snowmobile trail map and a winter calendar of events. There are several fun events that local clubs have planned for the season.

So when do the trails open? Heard a rumor that Vilas County is opening on December 1st. Have not verified that yet, might have to call the Barnstormers to get the scoop! The deer herd may be down in Vilas, but they still have the best trails in the State.

Price County snowmobile trails are in excellent to very good condition. All trails are being groomed on a regular basis. Lake trails have been marked; stay on marked lake trails for safety. Trail #106, a very short section of trail in the very northeast corner of Price County connecting to the Iron County trail system, is temporarily closed due to an open swamp issue. There is a logging operation on trail 80/82 by Up River Road off of Cty Hwy W. The trail has not been plowed but could be very bumpy. This is only for a few hundred yards of the trail. Order a free map today at www.pricecountywi.net. Happy Trails!
