Thought I'd have to wait until September before getting excited about new gear, but I hear 13 fishing released their 2018/19 special edition of the BB freefall in purple at ICAST this week. Couldn't find a pic of it though...

Can't wait to see what else this year brings!

Otter reinventing themselves every year means that the shack you bought 2 years ago is now unrepairable. Thanks Otter!

Otter's new x-over series of portables coming out this year. The best keeps getting better. Glad I'm not in the market for a shanty, they seem to be more expensive every year.

Scheels brand reels are a great value. Idk how many thousand fish I have caught on mine the last 2 years. I am very happy with them.

I heard Piscifun is coming out with an ice fishing reel this year. Smaller version of their 1000 model. I hear their reels are pretty nice, anyone ever use one for open water or ice fishing? I'm in need of 2 durable but cheaper spinning reels for my iFish pro's this season.

There's been um-teen threads on an ice fishing site where dude's will spend months arguing the speed of augers, which is better and what battery lasts longer in X drill. I've decided that this isn't worth it. I run what makes me happy, you do the same.

Another great thing about the Jiffy. The yuuuge gas tank. You fill it up with last summer's weedeater gas once a month and never have to haul a can.

There is something special about the sound of an old 2 stroke jiffy in the morning on the ice.   And the smell of the gas as it leaks out in the back of your truck or in the otter sled on your gloves lol.

Haha all true statements there! I used to use my Jiffy as my shanty anchor and it worked great!

3 reasons jiffys are better than electrics. 1. You can leave the jiffy in the back of your pickup and no one will steal it. 2. You can use the jiffy to weigh anything down. 3. You can lean the jiffy in the corner for 3 years and it will start on the 3rd pull.

I'm just goofing. Let's not talk about augers anymore. You spend 5 minutes a day drilling holes no matter what you have. Augers are the most overdiscussed topic in fishing. Your gloves are more important and they rarely get talked about

There's no arguing the longevity of the old school Jiffys. I still have mine handed down to me from my grandpa, runs like a charm. I keep it right where it should be, hanging on the wall so I can show my son someday what we used "back in the day". It's just a matter of time before gas and propane augers are a thing of the past.
