I just got my ice 45 and am setting it and I see the transducer has 2 cables, the support & sensor. For people with hummingbirds is this sensor cable nesessary as it does not plug in to anything? Hummingbird Web site makes it sound like it's a tecnacallity and is just there cuz of patten? Any body use with out attaching this?

I have the 45 and don't use the float but do use the second cable. I think the intended use was to take the stress from the transducer. I put a small amount of slack in mine and taped the two together and works great.

I don't use the float, only issue I had was the cable can get stuck on the side if the hole is making ice.

You do not need the extra cable have been using my unit without for years read somewhere that it was to get around vexilars patent and a funny story my buddy was a little sauced and we were talking about it and he grabbed his iceducer and pulled on it hard and then said see you dont need no freekin extra cable and we all laughed!!!!!! Didnt pull out but i know i wouldn't of done that

So do you use the float thing, or just let the cable / transducer hang into the hole ?

I agree that you should not use the support cable. I have the 55 and have not used the support since getting it. It will throw off the angle of the ducer. Good luck this season!!!

don't use the support cable. it's my understanding they added that to get around the patent vexilar ellegedly has on the foam float. If you do use the support, you'll notice the tranducer more than likely will hang at a slight angle.
