Just curious too see how many people target these fish during ice fishing and if they have any luck. I've seen plenty of carp through the ice but they don't bite. Never seen a gar though seems like it would be a blast catching them with a small pole.

Years ago in fisherman did a segment about carp through the ice. Whenever I see them they have their heads buried in weeds. I would think late if with some water warming might activate them. I have caught plenty of red horse up north perch fishing, but always late ice with current.

If we catch any gar or carp we normally have foul hooked them. I just caught a gar tonight. It was just under the ice and I was actually checking my line for bait. I again foul hooked him.
