Interested in the replies to this as well. It is on my short list for my new hunting rifle this fall. The other two are a bit more expensive, but a lot of great reviews out there on the American. And Ruger's customer service is supposed to be top notch. Sending my Red Label into them for some work, so will find out.

I bought the All Weather American this summer and hunted with it this past season. It performed well and I am very happy with it. I put on the Vortex 4-16X50 Viper Scope with BDC reticle. It was more than I needed for the where I hunted this year, but that was this year. This gun can take some long pokes. David Petzal at Field and Stream gave a great review of the Ruger American.

Love the .223 I have, use it for coyotes.....have not sighted in the .260 Rem yet, gonna do that this week I hope.  120 grain ballisitic tips and 120 Fusions......22llr has not fired much either but hope to get to that this next few weeks also.

The American is probably the best of the cheaper "economy" bolt actions out there now.

I too was checking the American out the other day. I have been shooting a 30-06 Ruger m77 stainless for 20 plus years. Will probably never buy another rifle. No need too. The American did not have the same feel as the m77 but I am used to my gun. Love the Rugers

I looked at one about 3 weeks ago. At first glance and by holding the gun, working the bolt and playing with it, it seemed like a cheap gun. I own a Mark 77 in .308 and love it. So I was disappointed to see the "Lack of Finish" on this rifle.

All that being said, I have never fired one to see the groupings or cycled a box of rounds through one. All the reviews are favorable for the most part, and at the price it seems like it is a good value.

If you can find a Mark 77 in your caliber used buy it. I wouldn't sell mine for twice the price of an "American".

my 3 cents, mac

I purchased a .223 and found it to be a pretty good gun. I then bought a 260 rem with threaded barrel, and yesterday I bought a 22 caliber with a threaded barrel..........I like these guns, you will not find a better weapon for the money.
