I'm looking to purchase my first pistol. Plan on spending around $600. So far I'm leaning towards the Smith & Wesson M&P.Any suggestions on one. Looking to buy something American made.

Go to a range that rents guns out so you can shoot it before you buy it. When we were looking for a 9mm for my wife she got to shoot several including the P226 Sig. She really liked it, but then she shot a 9mm CZ and she liked that even better! The CZ is less expensive than the Sig by a lot and she liked it more. The CZ doesn't get the recognition because it says Czech on the side instead of Austria. So, if you get the opportunity, shoot them first and listen less to other peoples favorites.

Good luck in your choice!

Nor am I a Glock fan, they hold all the interest of a 16oz hammer to me.  But on the other hand they're also as reliable as a 16oz hammer!

Not a Glock fan, grips are too bulky for my hands. But there's a reason they're one of the hottest selling guns out there.

I'm considering a G 19 once they start producing the Military variant for the SEALS.

I ended up buying the Glock 30 and love it. I went through a couple of boxes of ammo already.

I know guys who do nothing but collect 1911's. I own a few, but there's just as much passion for them as their is for AR's.

What are the Rock Island Armory 1911's going for these days? I really wish I would have bought one early on when they were way cheaper. I could have walked out of the Green Bay Gun Show around 10 years ago with one for $300.

Nothing wrong with the M&P 45. If this is a first gun and you're new. You may want to look at the M&P 45 with the frame safe. It adds about 50.00 to the price, but in some cases, that's worth it.

Ruger makes the SR45 that comes with the safety. Trigger and feel isn't as nice as the Smith, but it's a cheaper alternative.
