We run lead core colored line off our planer boards to get our flies and spoons down to the right depth. I HATE using lead core. Are there other line options out there and still have a good idea as to the depth that the lure is running?

Second what Pollock said. No stretch and not so much delay time like leadcore has where you dont know whats going on.

We run mono with keel weights in addition to our leadcore. You can get a variety of weights from 1/8oz to 2oz. After the keel weight we run a 3' - 4' flourocarbon leader followed by our gear.

Copper is not much different than leadcore as far as handling and ease of use. It does have a tendancy to want to backlash when first putting it out if you dont have any tension on the line. I went from lead to copper with no practice runs with other people rigs and didnt have a problem.

Copper is definately a tool to have, especially a 200 or 300 footer.

An easy and cheap way to get deep is various ounces of snapweights on OR16 Red clips from offshore as well.

Is copper easier to handle and more "compliant" than lead core?

You can run copper. It will good deeper than the same length of core.
