So, I'm really kind of new at all this Great Lakes fishing. I've been serious for the last 2 years. I've been watching mostly weather underground for wave height, forecast, and wind information. It seems to be more reliable than the other sites I've watched. However, there are times that it calls "less than a foot" and I get there and it's blowing north and 3-4 footers. Not good for me in a 17' tiller. What are the weather sites that people have been watching?

Check these sites out that I use before my long drive to the lake.

http://www.windalert.com/spot/1272 (not sure why this won’t directly link to the page. So save this document and then you should be able to copy and paste this link into the address bar and hit enter)

http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/milwaukee

http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?sta=KMKE&state=WI

http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Weather.aspx?location=USWI0455 (check hourly and extended.)

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=mlww3 (check just before leaving home in case weatherman wrong)

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/data/Forecasts/FZUS53.KMKX.html (near shore forecast)

http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=LOT&product=GLF&issuedby=LM (off shore forecast)

http://marine.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=43.052833917627936&lon=-87.80960083007812&site=lot&smap=1&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=marine#.VaZVJvlViko

(this one will give you wave prediction at a spot on the map. If you put your cursor on another place of the map and left click it will give you a prediction for that spot.)

I pay attention to wind direction more than anything. West winds you can fish in pretty heavy winds. East winds, I usually stay home.

I also like to see how long it has been blowing from one direction. even 5 mph East winds if they have been blowing for 12 hours are trouble.

I use 2 apps, Wind Alert and Buoy Weather. Wind Alert will show current winds and forecast future winds. Buoy Weather is a wave and wind forecast app. Buoy Weather has not let me down fishing lake Superior.

Depends on where you are going out of. If algoma or Kewaunee, i look at the algoma cam that is in parking lot if two rivers, I look at two rivers cam. As far a weather forecast I look at weather channel ap and noaa great lakes forecast.
