Using torpedo divers with copper.

I have been using copper line setups with success. I currently use 2 setups with 150' and 2 setups with 300'. I want to add versatility to the spread and reach greater depths without dedicating more reels to copper. Frankly, I personally think 300' of copper or leadcore is the max I want to reel in while fighting a fish. Do any of you add torpedo divers to your copper setups to achieve greater depths? If you do, have you found it to be as successful as running setups without? My research indicates that you use a clip attached to a 12" dropper after the copper on the backing line (then let out 25-50'). What type of clips do you use? Have you found that other types of weights work just as good? Is a 12" dropper really necessary?

Thanks for the comments in advance. Happy New Year!

We use all types of the torpedoes and the or 16 with no issues. Like said, with braid double wrap so it doesnt slide down.

I use torpedo weights out of my kayak. I run all of them on a 12-18" leader connected to an OR16 clip. I like to connect the OR16 to mono - it won't slide like it will on braid. If you're going to use it on braid, you'll need to double wrap it.

I've used up to 24 oz lead balls bouncing off bottom with OR16 clips and haven't had any failures. You shouldn't have an issue with the 12 oz cudas.

Fisher,

what size weights are you using? I was thinking of 4 and 8 ounce. Are you using torpedos? Concerned that anything over 8 ounces may be to big for an OR16 clip?

The dropper allows the weight to not bounce around as much when it comes out of the water, and it makes it easier to grab the line. We use an or16 clip from offshore with the pin. We are in the same boat, we have a 150 and 300 copper and use weights to achieve the other depths.
