KAMO is a Wisconsin-based non-profit organization that gets kids off their earbuds and into the outdoors. Never before has there been such a substantial need for adults to pass their outdoor skills on to a younger generation that has become disconnected with nature. KAMO has 5 chapters - Florence, Ladysmith, New Lisbon, Baraboo, La Crosse/ Onalaska. Kamokids.org is the group's website and provides details, contact information and photos of the group's activities. KAMO is unique in that members of the group plan, organize, and finance activities year around. These activities can be done one on one, small or large group. KAMO mentors are encouraged to contribute the time what they can comfortably give and are not pushed for more. KAMO has been popular and can always use new mentors who bring their ideas and energy to the group. The La Crosse group I'm a memeber of could use some people for Learn to Hunts or other mentored hunting experiences for events on the river and local Mississippi Valley properties. We are open to someone who may have horses or places to camp as that is what our kids are asking for.I will try to post our activities on here once in a while.

Just a hello from the Ladysmith Chapter of KAMO.  We had our annual members meeting 2 days ago at the Mead Wildlife Center between Marshfield and Stevens Point. About 25 of us from all 7 of our chapters--Florence, Ladysmith, LaCrosse Area, Baraboo area, Lake Wisconsin/Poynetter, Meadow Valley, and Marshfield/Stevens Point.

We do a lot for kids arouond the state (about 70 mentors and 160 kids), but we are limited by our number of mentors.  Please inspect our web site at kamokids.org.  If you are near one of our chapters, call the one of the numbers on the site.  If you are not near any, call anybody listed to see about starting a new KAMO chapter.

Take a kid or two outside tomorrow!

Yesterday was one of those trips where the unexpected was encountered. The original movie we were going to see was sold out, so we decided to do a pizza while waiting for a "plan B" movie to start at another theater and it worked out absolutely terrific.

We saw "A Dog's Purpose" which was a great movie for all ages.

We are headed for the International Owl Festival next Saturday.

What great fun it is to run with the kids. A few of our parents come along on our outings with their children and they are fun to have along as well.

I'll try to do a better job taking outing pictures in 2017.

Our group has the following outings coming up. One reason for posting it here is that our activities are open to the public.

Attending International Festival of Owls in Houston, Minnesota on March 4th.

Introduce families to archery at La Crosse Archery in Onalaska on Aprl 1st.

Take families on the Best Dam Fishing Float off Dresbach in March or April.

Hike and fish the Badger Mining Facility near Taylor, probably in May.

Take kids out turkey hunting.

Would like to introduce kids to bow fishing.

Pontoon rides, canoeing, monthly camping.

Teach hunter's education in both traditional and internet field day formats. There are currently four traditional classes on GoWild for spring in La Crosse area and an internet one being planned for June. KAMO mentors are involved in some of these.

I did a poor job of posting KAMO adventures from 2016, so I'd like to make up for it a little now.

These pictures are from our fishing outing in June on Lake Onalaska.

The kids pictured here are catching and cleaning fish for the first time.

KAMO went to La crosse Chill game (hockey). That's me seated in the foreground. In attendance were 31 from KAMO, 19 from BB/ BS and Boys and Girls.

Held two ice fishing events. The girl in the pink suit never gives up and can catch fish in just about any situation. One tough cookie.

Four of our mentors got certified as online field day hunter's education instructors on January 29th.
