KAMO is a Wisconsin-based non-profit organization that gets kids off their earbuds and into the outdoors. Never before has there been such a substantial need for adults to pass their outdoor skills on to a younger generation that has become disconnected with nature. KAMO has 5 chapters - Florence, Ladysmith, New Lisbon, Baraboo, La Crosse/ Onalaska. Kamokids.org is the group's website and provides details, contact information and photos of the group's activities. KAMO is unique in that members of the group plan, organize, and finance activities year around. These activities can be done one on one, small or large group. KAMO mentors are encouraged to contribute the time what they can comfortably give and are not pushed for more. KAMO has been popular and can always use new mentors who bring their ideas and energy to the group. The La Crosse group I'm a memeber of could use some people for Learn to Hunts or other mentored hunting experiences for events on the river and local Mississippi Valley properties. We are open to someone who may have horses or places to camp as that is what our kids are asking for.I will try to post our activities on here once in a while.

Probably one of the best weather days in years.

Outdoor Youth Mentoring Alliance - June 23rd and 24th - Lincoln, Nebraska. Great gathering of youth groups and support organizations from 12 states. One of the main messages of the event was that due to the decline in hunting participation and licenses, our hunting sports are in jeopardy. Lower license sales result in less money generated. The target population for introduction into shooting/ hunting sports is youth through 35 years of age.

There is a need for mentoring groups to work with other groups. The Big Brothers/ Big Sisters has been a great partner of several youth organizations nationally.

Sponsors included Powderhook Digital Mentors, Cabelas Outdoor Fund, Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors, Federal Premium Ammunition, Union Sportsman's Alliance, Outdoor Heritage Education Center.

The Coulee Chapter of KAMO will be in need of:

1. Volunteers to go along on outings to chaperone our outings (which appear in another comment below).

2. Mentors for fall hunting excursions. We do small game, duck, and deer hunting. We have a camping/ youth deer gun hunt planned early in October, for example. Last year we had a LOT of kids who wanted to go.

Before we walked the trails, we ate hot dogs, chips, cranberry juice, Muenster cheese from and smoked fish by the Amish in the Cashton area. Both cheese and fish were amazing. Smoked suckers out of clean, cold water are among the best of the smoked fishes I've had.

KAMO went in to Mc Mullen Park near Warrens today for their clean-up. We put a good dent in their mess and had a good time.
