Go with the hitchpins Rob pictured. They work great, and easy breakdown for transit. Skip the painters pole and locate an old piece of conduit, banging against the jetti walls is tough on your extension.

A bridge net would work better if you are fishing straight down. I have seen some cool baskets, too at high piers.

Much easier. And nut and bolt catches on crap easier, besides getting loose sometimes. I think menards has them.

I thought about those, especially as they would be a lot easier that a nut and bolt.

Which is better for an extension for a net handle (painter pole or similar): collar lock or pin lock? I'm worried about the collar lock not holding but I'm not sure if the pin lock would tear out after time. Or should I just get a nice handle from Drifter Marine and skip the painter pole job altogether?

The whole area along the Hank Aaron State Trail is pretty much open to fishing. If you fish the jetty walls you will need a long net; something that can reach out at least 12 feet. Here is a link to a google map.

If you need a back up site during the big festivals, a good south side location is Cupertino Park right next to South Shore Yacht Club, and the Jetty next to the Coast Guard station, and Sea Scouts facility.

Look at a map. From south Hoan bridge or from 794, get yourself to intersection of Michigan and Lincoln Memorial Dr. Go toward Discovery World. Take a quick right onto Harbor Dr. south. Go south all the way to the river, Erie Street. At one 4-way stop you need to pivot left a little. Road goes east quite a ways behind Marcus, there's even porta-potty available. Fishing anywhere along the wall or lighthouse pier. During Summerfest or a big show at Marcus this won't work at all.

If you don't use freeway, just get to Erie Street from 1st using Pittsburg, again look at a map.

If you need to get back south via Hoan, go all the way back to Michigan by Discovery World, then west looking for 794 east sign which will be a left turn. Good luck.
