Has anyone ever hired a charter to deep sea fish in Hawaii. I am going Honolulu next year and would like to set one up. I am trying not to get ripped off since internet research is about the extent that I can do from Wisconsin. Any suggestions or advice?

Finally went last week. Went with Blue Nun charters out of Honolulu, island of Oahu. Did a 3/4 charter. Got a 27 lb mahi mahi, 35 lb striped Marlin, and 6 assorted smaller tuna. Tuna were 5-10 lbs but can get way bigger. Was a great time

I'll tell ya one thing I'd look up, its bass fishing...that's right bass. On the big island there are lakes inland surrounded by lush rainforests, and they are full of bass. I recall someone doing a fishing show on one of these lakes...I've never been able to get it out of my head since....my mother and step-father winter in Hawaii, but they have zero interest in the outdoors...they go there to sit on a patio and read the books they bring...such a waste! They always told me they would take my brother and I one year, but its been over a decade and I'm not holding my breath.

I had a buddy that went to Hawaii and he said the fresh caught Mahi Mahi was one of the best things he has ever tasted in his life.

That was $150 per person. He charged us $600 for the boat and there was 4 of us.

$150? Was that per person for a group of people? I see rates between $700 and $800. I wasn't sure if that was per person, or split 6 ways? Seems most deep sea boats are for up to 6 people.

I have been out twice both times out of Lahaina on Maui. They were both half day trips and were $150 per person. These were trolling trips for Marlin, Mahi, Tuna, etc... I had a marlin on for one of the trips but never landed it. All in all great experience will be going again next time I go.

My In laws are going in March and are looking at doing the same. I can let you know when they get back on what charter they used.
