I would like to get involved in taking out disabled Veterans fishing. I know there are these programs in other states but I don't know if there's anything in the southeastern Wisconsin area. Anybody know of such a program in my area?

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the comments. I will probably start something up on my own instead of looking any further for an existing group. At some point, if this takes off, I will be looking into volunteers. It would be great if I had a few other boats available if the need arises.

Contact the Paralyzed Veterans of America, WI Chapter at 414 328-8910 and ask for Paul. Tell him I referred you to him. He can get you started without the red tape of going through the VA Hospital.

And if you get anything going and want some additional help, my wife & I have been a volunteers with the Chapter since 2000 and help out with all kinds of activities, especially with trapshooting and hunting.

Need anything else, PM me.

I know there's been questions regarding the WWP for at least a couple years now and it seems to be coming to a head....I also know one vet in particular who's very involved in (Vet) fundraisers and events in the Chicago area. He's been involved in WWP events and will never again be associated with them.

He is now very outspoken over several groups that operate more for the operator's financial benefit than for the vets.

If I were to do this,I would probably avoid existing groups and go straight to the VA. Ask for a liason...OK,if it were me I'd ask a friend who not only works at the VA but also spends his off time helping vets. I'd ask him who to work with, and I'd ask the other friend who to avoid....But otherwise I'd just call the VA and ask...

(edit)email sent to my friend at Zablocki

Not exactly what your looking for, but its a video WABTA bass tournaments did for our Wounded Warrior/Camp Ryan Adams fundraiser last year on Pewaukee Lake. We have raised over $35,000 in 3 years, and got about 30 purple heart wounded warriors out fishing.

Hate to bring any negativity to something like this, as I fully support things like this. But do some research into any group you find. Few years ago a couple guys from my area wanted to do the same thing you are and got connected with a group (not sure which one). But they had a date set and guys had their boats set up for ease of use etc....and nobody ever showed up to go fishing. Couldn't tell you why...

There's "fishing has no boundaries" but I don't know if there's a 'Vet' angle to it.
