I am trying to put together a video for a couple of products I make. I have a newer computer with windows 8. When I take the SD card and try to play it I get a black screen and sound only. Here is what the file says that I am trying to play back Name MOV001.MOD Type MOD file size 5,248 kb Is MOV a program in the camcorder? Is it a good one? Thank you in advance for your help

Dave, Thank you. I was thinking it was my lack of computer skills.

Another option is using a Freeware program SDCopy..

Here is a Youtube instructional video with a link to the freeware:

Another Converter (freeware):

Or... if you prefer not to download and install any software, here is a on-line converter:

Zep..

I mess with video files for fly tying all the time.. MOV001.MOD is the file name, the .MOD is a file type that is used quite often by camcorders (JVC, Panasonic, Cannon).. It can be frustrating because Windows Media player will not play these "types" of files... kind of..

There might be a very simple fix.. copy the file from the SD card to a file folder or your desktop. Open file explorer where you saved the file, right click the explorer window and "view" Details.

Simply change the file name from: MOV001.MOD to: MOV001.mpg

You will get a message asking if your sure you want to change it, click yes.. then try and play it in the media player.

If that does not work, I can convert the file for you if you would like, in whatever format you want, or I might be able to point you to a player (viewer) that will play it.
