I have a 2010 Ford Expedition with a 5.4L engine. I tow around 1500 lbs On a 12 x 6.5 trailer. Is a trans cooler really needed? The Ford dealership say no but I have always had them in my trucks.

1,500 pounds is a day at the beach for your truck. Heck, a Chevy Malibu can pull 1,000 pounds...

Thanks guys. In my younger days I burned up a trans on V6 pulling my boat to northern MN. Don't wanna do that again LOL. Since then I always had trans coolers. Just wanted some additional opinions from other guys who tow.

I would have to agree woth coach on both points... especially since you did your due dilegence by asking a dealer... when's the last time a dealer turned down a chance to add an accessory...

1500 lbs seems like a walk in the park for your Expedition, if it were me, I'd skip the trans cooler.

OTOH, since the parts cost less than $100, if installing the cooler would give you sufficient peace of mind, at that price, it seems like a relative bargain.
