Is it legal to drive through Illinois to Kentucky with my gun in a case? I heard some where you need an Illinois FOID Card to even have a gun in your vehicle

The FOID requirement applies only to residents.

Federal law (Firearm Owner's Protection Act) also lays out the guidelines for the interstate transportation of firearms.

"Under FOPA, notwithstanding any state or local law, a person is entitled to transport a firearm from any place where he or she may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he or she may lawfully possess and carry it, if the firearm is unloaded and locked out of reach."

If all else fails, contact the Illinois State Police for advice.
