I really enjoy a good beer, but the last few years I've been drinking more and more red wine.  Heart healthy, and all around better for you than beer.

For the most part I enjoy a dark, dry, red wine.  That said, King Estate from Oregon has the best Pinot Noir I've had to date.  Anyone else have any favorites?  Dave, I know you can add to the list!

Late summer I had a problem with a Plum tree. Some invasive beetles were trying to eat it.  Harvested 16 pounds of fruit turned it into wine. Opened a bottle today. Very dry, great aroma. Needs to age for a while. I'll open another in about 6 months.  A new hobby for my semi-retirement, next is going to be Apple, then Grape.

Are Grapes even used in those rotgut brands?
Or are they made with KoolAid and a little yeast?

Funny GTN.

My bud FH texted me the other day and shared he tasted a red and one of the notes was graphite.  FH educated me on that, as graphite was a new one for me.

The wine I showed in my earlier post had a mineral note to it, I really couldn't place it. It was flat/smooth, and a little earthy.  I looked it up on Vivino, and it was graphite, so funny!

Literally learned that a couple of days ago, and boom, there it is!

Thought this was a nice red.

Fairly bold and dry, which are two of my favorite things in a cab!

Fruit forward too.  I liked this red quite a bit.

Bought this bottle bottle because I liked what it said lol!

I'd say a 3.5 or so...

Sitting on the front patio enjoying the afternoon sun with my wife.

I try not to rate wine by price, as I've had 15 dollar bottles that were absolutely outstanding, and 75 dollar bottles that got dumped down the drain (remember that time up north FH? Lol)

I'll admit Winking Owl has an attractive price point at 3 dollars per bottle, so I tried it!

Let's just say it got dumped down the drain, and I don't turn my nose up to too many reds.

But if you enjoy it (everyone's pallet is a little bit different), its a good score given its reasonable price!!!!

I know the Lake-Link Sommeliers here will roll their eyes. The Winking Owl Shiraz from Aldi is great with Pizza. I can't comment how it might taste stand alone.
