Chaw I think they dump him but that's my gut talking.  I to think his personal life got in the way of his play and he is a blemish on the club. That said and I could be dead wrong and they'll say he went to some counseling and is all better. They also picked up a lefty reliever Ryan Hill , I'm not sure what the deal was with Chavez other than age and money they mite not have had confidence he would pitch the same next season.

Mr. Gnat i believe there will be a sense of urgency as the window to win dosen't last forever especially with starting pitching that starts to age.  Your Brewers should be an excellent contender next year if they get some repeat performances from guys like Agular , Cain and Yelich and there starting pitching can stay healthy this year.

Yea Chaw Chavez took the ball without complaint when needed and did a good job. Epstein sure looks like he's sending a message to the team that they need to step up play winning baseball again instead of settling for so-so play. I think Russell is gone. not only for his"off field" problems but also for his lack of performance on the field, hitting especially. He lacked allot this past season compared to what he did when he first played a season for the team. Maybe his personal problems played a big part in his performance, lack of concentration or whatever but baseball is a business and to be sucessfull  the product has to perform at a high peak.

Pool- Do you think the Cubs will hold on to Russell or is this signing an indication the Cubs are moving on? I would not be thrilled to let him go for nothing.

Chitown- I also will miss Lastella. He had an unbelievable season as a pinch hitter last year.

Looks like salty Theo is ready to send some guys packing. I also was sorry they couldn’t or didn’t sign Chavez. He did a good job for the Cubs last year.

Hey Gnat here's another tidbit for you to chew on. Cubs trade Tommy LaStella (our most consistant pinch hitter) to the Angels for cash or the infamous "player to be named later" I know LaStella makes allot of money just to pinch hit and occasionally play the field, but I liked him and am sorry to see him go.

Listen he’s no Nate Orf but few are.

I had to look it up. He is a career .280 hitter and can play multiple infield positions. That seals the division for next year.
