Nice pics SM!
Really pretty birds.
Really pretty birds.
I took a long country drive in SE WI today to look for migrating waterfowl. Conditions were not ideal with the off/on rain and gusty winds. Lots and lots of species observed; mallards, gadwall, shovelers, wigeon, ringnecks, redheads, buffleheads, common goldeneyes, common mergansers, hooded mergansers, coots, tundra swans, trumpeter swans, Canada geese, and sandhill cranes.
The wigeon are always fun to watch. They congregate around the redheads and wait for them to bring up a mouthful of weeds and then try to steal it away (hence the nickname "robber duck").
Below pics of 2 different trumpeter swans and a drake gadwall.

Saw a woodpecker hitting the suet, then when he left a Robin took his place.
Ate his fill too! I've not seen that before, and we keep suet out year round (and have for years)
Interestingly, that was mentioned by someone else on this thread not too long ago.

Spring is close, the finches are turning from dull gray to brilliant yellow!
Love it!
They're not quite there yet, but it has started!
