Battery Box

I have a Battery Box that has a hinged cover with handle on top.It has exposed terminals, indicator, . Is that legal in your boat ? Does it have to be fasten in place. Thanks in Advance

Page 19 of the WI boating regulations.....

Terminals need to be covered and battery secured to vessel to prevent shifting.

Fred, I'm not the WDNR, but I'm gonna say no, it isn't legal as is. The point of requiring battery boxes is to ensure safety, and safety is maintained by:

1) ensuring that the terminals are covered to prevent contact with some conductive material that would result in a dead short, resulting in fire or explosion, and

2) holding the battery securely, to prevent it from falling over and leaking acid, or allowing the terminals to come into contact with some conductive material, again, potentially resulting in fire or explosion.
