Anyone ever use beads with their fly rod? I was planning in getting a center pin but I got a fly rod for Christmas but still like the bead idea. I was looking at the soft bead variety.

Beads on the fly

I tie my own flies, I use most for ice fishing but some in the spring bluegill. I have very little luck with beads, plastic, tungsten etc anytime of the year. What I found was that if you are getting fish on beads, there is a more natural fly in your box that will destroy the beaded fly.
The only time tungsten is a good option is if I'm fishing 20+ foot for suspended panfish. the tungsten gets down quicker. Then again, if the tungsten fly is working, a big waxie on a heavier tungsten jig is better. I just have very limited luck with beads. I'd love them to work cause I have some super cool looking ones, i just think they don't "work" naturally. They don't flutter and look as natural.
