I had a Fisher Pro Hawk 170, 17' 6" came with a 46 lb thrust. Switched it out for a Minn Kota 70 lb thrust. Best move ever. When we bought our "new" boat, a Crestliner Fish Hawk 1650, told dealer to switch out the 45 lb for a Minn Kota 70 lb thrust. Never a problem with that 70 lb thrust. Only minor deal is the small amount of extra weight for 24 volt system.

What kind of 16 foot we talking  how wide how heavy I have a 1625  lund rebel xl ss and 55 pound minnkota good with no wind but if there's  anything over 12mph it struggles but on my 15 foot 3 bench aluminum  starcraft tiller boat flies through the water with a 55 pound thrust because it's so light.....about 700lbs versus 2100

I agree!! Wish I had a 80 instead of 55 on my 165 Lund. Good in calm water, but any wind or current chows the battery. I use s pot lock a lot and general cruising along. I run a 31 battery and it gets a workout with any wind. I do use it to troll stear also combined with main motor...

No one ever said "wish I didn't have so much power..or, wish it was smaller..etc", my 16ft jon for river fishing is rigged with an 80#, 24v Minnkota Terrova Link.  It can handle any current, wind. load etc.. Bigger is better!!  A good buddy has a 16ft deep V with a 55# on the bow for maneuvering while using his Merc 90hp 4strk for trolling for walleye & wishes he had gone 80# for maneuvering.

55 thrust is good on a 16 ft.  Check out the Minnkota and Motor guide websites.  I bought one last week and the best price was on Reeds online in Minnesota

I have a 16 1/2’ Lund rebel has 40 or 45lb thrust minn Kota it’s been rock solid, but if get much more than a 10mph wind or some current it doesn’t have enough power.

I’m upgrading this spring and will be going with a 55lb thrust model.

The Minnkota Chart for trolling motor selection suggests a minimum of 40-45 ft.lbs. of torque for 2,000 lb. 16 ft. boat.
