My current unit is a Lowrance HDS 7 Insight USA with structure scan. I mainly fish Green Bay, Bago, and a few larger inland lakes. I have a few questions. Is the preloaded insight mapping efficient enough? If not, What chip would you recommend?

I just bought a Hummingbird 859 DI. This is my first locator like this. My last fish locater is a 15 year old basic black and grey Lowrance. Can someone tell me what buying the mapping chip actually gets you besides maps of the lakes? I know they show depth but do they show any underwater structure at all?

i have the insight hd chip in mine and love it, i think it has more detail than the latest lakemaster chip for low. i think i would stick the money into baits or gas. good luck.

Thats why I ask. Hopefully others will have more advice. The chips are $149-199. Is adding a chip worth the price??

I use the Lake Master chip in my HDS 7 Gen 2 . I only use the chip because I had it. I would not buy a chip now because the mapping on the HDS is just as good .
