I'm looking for a cheaper fishfinder ($85-$130) that has an alright display with combined GPS and sonar or just sonar. I have looked at the Lowrance X4 Pro and wherever I've looked it hasn't been in my price range. Also the Garmin Striker 4 but I think the battery is too big and to be putting in an already bulky slow kayak. If anyone knows of any cheaper units with included transducer that fit the price range with a small battery, your review of it would be nice

My kayak has rails built in for attachments so I picked up a swing arm transducer mount and use a 12v, 7a battery with portable bag. You can find the batteries (w/charger) for fairly cheap on Amazon, too. See below for examples. The whole kit is fairly light and very portable. Scupper mounts are nice but I worry about damage if I were to hit/scrape something.

I just have a regular Humminbird 571 HD DI. It doesn't have a gps or chart plotting. I like it though as I got a very good deal on ebay. I manufactured my own transducer mount that mounts right inside one of my scupper holes. I basically just used some 1" pvc pipe, a little styrofoam for balancing the transducer, and a bolt. I did not drill into the kayak. I initially bought a Lowrance kayak scupper mount which would have been better, but it didn't work with my Humminbird. For a battery I use a Cabelas rechargable 12v battery that measures only 4"x6" so it fits in one of my cubbies.

With my setup the battery has lasted all day every trip I've made so far.
