Does anyone use Maps in their sonar/GPS? I have a Lowrance elite-5 and thinking about getting map software for it. What does the Lowrance Insight Maps have on it? I have an older Garmin GPS unit that I had purchased the hotspots maps for. I like that it tells you the fishing spots on lakes... Not just contours. I'm not looking at Navionics because they break their Maps in to regions that I would have to buy 2 regions in order to get both Illinois and Wisconsin.

Opinions?

jbird68...I have the Navionics Plus US/Canada card because I fish all over the US and Canada. I just update the waters that I will be fishing before I head out. Nice to only have to have 1 card that covers everything I fish. I highly recommend.

Garmin will settle and pay for the licensing so there will be no interruption in the sales of their depth finders.

I just bought the Garmin with the maps and so far so good.  I have a handheld GPS and two Navionic chips I am going to sell.

Do not get the HotSpots maps. They are horrible. Very old data and very inaccurate. I just got a new Garmin that had 17,000 maps pre-installed. 13,000 of those maps show the depths in 1 foot contours and are very accurate. I will probably get rid of my Lowrance on my bow and replace it with a Garmin just because I am so impressed by the maps.

No kidding, I don't recall what I even paid for it, I thought it was like $130 bucks.  It is not doing me any good since I cannot use it.  If you want it, I will ship it to you for $50 bucks.  Let me know.

Got my eye on a 2015 Insight chip for $55. Also another at $42 plus shipping. Let you know if I change my mind.

I do believe that the Lowrance Insight Chip will have what you are looking for.  I also have one that I would sell you for $65.  It is a 2013 version.  I have switched locator brands, and that is the last Lowrance Chip that I still have avaialble.  If interested, PM me.

It's not HDI. But one of the depth finders on my new boat crapped out on me already. So I'm looking for another unit to replace it. I was thinking about getting another Lowrance Elite-5. My current elite 5 is on the console. But if I get a new unit with HDI, I would swap them so the HDI unit is on the console. I have terrova with ipilot and transducer built in. The HDI wouldn't work with that. But my elite 5 will. I just don't want to have to buy two map chips to get Wisconsin and Illinois.

Is it just an Elite 5 its not an Elite 5 HDI? That will make a difference on which Navionics card you can run.
