What braid do you guys like best for UL spinning? I have had the best luck with 4# Fireline, handling well - not twisting up or digging in on the spool. Tried 5# Power Pro and had issues with bad twisting, and laying too soft on the spool and digging in. Any other thoughts or experiences? Been looking at the 6# Spiderwire Stealth in the store and may try that this spring.

4# berkley fused crystal; also agree on the double uni.

Da'coach, you're absolutely correct. Other than my trolling braid set ups, I'm a spinning reel only guy and incorrectly think that fire line is a true braid.

Smoker, Fireline isn't true braid either, it's fused. Pretty big difference, IMO, it's therefore optimized for spinning, but not a good choice for casting reels (since it's kind of a flat ribbon-like line). Same material (Dyneema) as many other braids, but not braided, and therefore, not round at all.

Also, for joining lines, count me as one more vote for double uni knots. Use 'em all the time, very nice, great success! Big Smile

The only UL rods I have are used for pan fishing so I'm going to assume that's your intentions. And your mostly concerned about casting not jigging. Berkley Nanofil although not a true braided line is by far the best spinning reel line available for casting light lures. The casting distance is remarkable. Small dia. And great strength. Pay attention and pick the correct knot. It's not cheap, but you did ask for the best not the best priced. As far as a true braided line, I like crystal fire line for all other situations.

You could try the albright knot. If they have the same diameter use the limper line of the two to make the wraps. Still, most likely it'll be the braid you'll wrap around the loop of mono. I can't wait to try the 10# nano stuff I'm using on my ice rod for casting in streams this spring.

What kind of knot do you use to join real light leader to real thin braid on these ultralight setups?

I'm a big fan of suffix 832.

Have it on 4 panfish ice fishing rods,4 of my walleye icefishing jig sticks,& 10 of my soft water walleye jigging rods.
