As the catfish world plows ahead in the national popularity contest the question comes up to what electronics do you use? I run Humminbird ONIX 10si and love it. I have no need for a lot of the links to trolling motors and such but it is an amazing machine. I utilize the AutoChart LIVE and Side Image on a split screen. This allows me to have a chart of uncharted waters and quickly move through holes and areas to see if there are fish in them and where within a hole they are.

I assume by that price point you are saying Helix 9.  Like I said in another post you must have AutoChart Live.  I would also advise buying a Zero Lines card for recording your maps.  Runs about $120

I see Hodges Marine has the Helix SI/GPS for under $900 now. I'll have one as soon as I sell off the majority of my STL Blues season tickets. That shouldn't take very long.

I avoid buyers remorse most of the time these days. I have a system of finding what I want, study it then table the idea for a couple weeks to see if it is still what I want. It works well for things like phones, computers, guns, etc....

As far as fishing and electronics go I know what I want and what I need so I don't hesitate to buy anymore. Dropping $3k like I did last time was a bit uncomfortable but it has opened so many doors to me that it has paid for itself and then some.

That's not a bad alternative.

I was hoping to see something around $800 for it. I'm sure somewhere down the road it will get there. It might even get fairly close this year if someone like a BPS has a blanket electronics discount sale.

You get the temporary buyers remorse, Brad? I know that feeling, as well.

$999 is a tough one to swallow for many people. I remember the first time I broke $1k for a depth finder I felt sick for a couple weeks but looking back it was worth every penny I spent on it.

There is another way to do it. Helix 5 then purchase Autochart software. You have to record the lake then go home to a computer to convert it to a map. That gets the cost down to about $500.

Slightly disappointed to see the price to get AutoChart Live. $999.99 is the most affordable I see for the Helix9 SI/GPS. That's about 8 C-notes away from being affordable for the vast majority of people that fish for catfish in my area. The people that have money/technology gravitate towards the bass/walleye circles.

I still try to ride the patterns and stay on the move when I can. If I am on a good solid pattern I don't use it other than to check out holes on the maps. When fishing is tougher it is slow down and take my time. In my opinion SI changed the world. AutoChart is changing it again.

I've noticed, since I've SI now, that I spend a lot of time going real slow in the boat. 5-6 MPH is probably my most common speed now.

It is becoming very affordable now. Last winter Humminbird brought out the Helix 5 it was an opportunity to get SI for $500. I have started to see some 798 models used for as little as $300

As the bigger and newer Helix models come out next spring the new price points will make it all much more affordable again.

I hear you. I could afford it, just couldn't justify it till last year when I found mine at a Gander Mountain clearance sale for 50% off.
