Old evirnude lower unit problem

Need help!!! I thought I'd blown a sheer pin when the motor kicked and the prop wouldn't spin in either direction. I got home, took off the prop and the sheer pin was fine. Engine work is not my forte and this is stumping me. Should I take the motor in now or should I give her another try on the lake with a smaller prop? Also, what are the possibilities of what went wrong and what are the ways to solve said possible problems? I'd hate to have to get a new motor!

Another thing that could cause the prop not to turn when the motor is in gear is that you could have a spun hub in the prop. To check for this, while the motor is out of the water put it in gear and try turning the prop, if it turns and the prop shaft isn't, it is spun.

goh, does the engine still turnover if you pull the rope? If it turns does the prop turn with it. These are very simple engines and are easy to work on and find parts for. 1st let's find out if it's really broke or just partly broke. Being as you stated that it kicked up that could be really bad if the engine let loose. If it's just a gear, lower unit then it's bad but not too bad and can be repaired cheaply and relatively quickly. So let's start with the 1st 2 questions and we'll go from there. Could be the shift lever/mechanism. try that trail. otherwise whats your location thereabouts?
