What safety equipment besides the mandatory items do you carry on your boat?

I spend a fair amount of time no where near shore amenities.

Duck Tape, Spare plugs in case a live well pump or line goes so I can cap it off, several sizes of hose clamps, compass, flashlight, (head lamp), spare nut and thrust washer in addition to the extra prop, One heck of a good first aid kit, Some one said a good pair of cutters, heavy enough to easily cut the largest hooks in your tackle box. This I consider a must have, I carry a small tarp, and fire starting equipment, And the best piece of safety equipment between your ears.

Don't wait for a live well , recirculating or bilge line to break before you look to see what you can reach and get at, some boats may require some gymnastics or additional hardware to be removed. You may not have the luxury of time figuring out the best method in low light and water coming in.

good luck

Most that I have, have already been mentioned...But besides the small tool kit I have a pair of side cutters that don't get used.

I have at least two other tools that cut wire on the boat. They DO cut wire and hooks and stuff regularly. The "other" side cutters is stainless and good quality and has two pristine cutting surfaces. I hope they stay pristine,as it is for emergency hook cutting - and only for hooks imbedded badly in (my) human flesh. If I need a good cutters again some time in the future,I don't want to be looking for an undamaged cutting surface in the tool.

I consider my richtor with 100' of anchor rope, TM with fully charged battery, a full-sized paddle, and a million-candlepower spotlight as absolutely essential items to guarantee I can get back to the dock in one piece.

A four-stroke Yamaha with sufficient gas doesn't hurt either.

These days, a cell phone is also on the list - but as a last resort only.

Small tool assortment, jumper cables, and a first aid kit. I have used the first aid kit quite a few times - kids or other people step on something sharp in the water. We keep water mocks in the boat now. Live and learn...
